Spray painting – Matt paint
Definition and Function
  • Matt paint is a type of surface finishing process. Using a spray gun and compressed air, the paint is atomized into fine mist particles and evenly applied to the workpiece surface, forming a smooth and non-glossy coating.
  • Its main function is to provide the workpiece with a low-reflective, delicate, and soft surface appearance, while offering certain protective and wear-resistant properties. It is widely used in the appearance finishing of smart devices, home appliance housings, electronic components, and automotive interior parts requiring a subtle and elegant texture.

Metals, plastics, glass, wood, etc. Good coverage, producing a uniform surface finish Matt, semi-matt, or satin finish (10°–30° gloss) Excellent, meeting ASTM D3359 4B–5B standards Moderate to high, suitable for parts requiring scratch resistance Excellent for indoor use; for outdoor applications, UV and aging resistance can be enhanced by formulation adjustment Typically 20–40 μm Soft reflection with stable tone and high-quality appearance
Applicable Materials
Metals: Aluminum Titanium
Plastic: ABS Polycarbonate (PC) Nylon Polypropylene (PP) POM PTFE (Teflon) PMMA (Acrylic) Polyethylene (PE) PEEK Bakelite FR4 Carbon Fiber
Process Characteristics

Applied by spray coating, resulting in uniform film thickness and excellent adhesion;

Low surface gloss (generally ≤30°, measured at 60° gloss angle);

Visually soft and smooth, without mirror reflection;

Requires a clean, dust-free spraying environment to avoid particles, bubbles, and sagging;

Can be combined with primer and intermediate coats to enhance flatness and durability;

Suitable for medium- to large-scale industrial production with stable process control and good recoatability.
